Studied Cello and Double Bass at the Conservatory of Ferrara.
Ares begins his career as a bass player with singer Carmen Villani of the Avengers beat band (with Ellade Bandini on drums): with Carmen he records her self-titled debut in 1965 for Bluebell records. He will then play bass in all of the LPs of Carmen.
In 1969 he starts, with drummer Ellade Bandini and Milan keyboard player Vince Tempera a band named "The Pleasure Machine", and records 5 LPs in the following three years.
With the very same musicians he begins working as a sessionman in recording studios in Milan, working on "L'Isola non trovata" by Francesco Guccini and "Terra in Bocca" by "I Giganti"; during that last recording session he develops a bond with Enrico Maria Papes.
After the split-up of "The Pleasure Machine", he enters in 1973 the historical avantgarde band AREA, left without bassist after losing Patrick Djivas to "Premiata Forneria Marconi": with Demetrio Stratos, Patrizio Fariselli, Paolo Tofani and Guido Capiozzo he records more than 10 complete albums and attends many shows in and out of Italy. During these times he approaches jazz music, with many frequentations in the New York jazz scene.
In 1978 he works as a bass player and backing focalist for the Ufo Robot Goldrake OST with ex-Pleasure Machine Vince Tempera, with whom he co-authored the final of the anime, Shooting Star.
For three hears (1984 - 1986 ) he rates first in the chart of Italian bassist held by Guitar Club magazine
In 1987 he wins the A. Willaert prize as best musician of the year
